UCIA M.A. Creative Practice
My home town of Langholm is populated, like many small towns, by local celebrities and characters, each with a story to tell and a face made for drawing. This project is about capturing a small selection of those characters at work.
In the interest of creating something that might be considered to be more than a collection of drawings and whilst focusing on Paul Hogarth's 'artist as reporter' tenet, I conducted and recorded a series of interviews with my subjects. These conversations not only formed the basis of each illustration but also became integral elements in the final compositions.
The final outcome is a piece of social historical documentary as much as it is a portfolio of reportage illustration.
