KATHERINE
Latimer's of Langholm, is a local institution that opened its doors 135 years ago and remains to this day, a family
run concern. I wanted to include a Latimer in my series and had originally inquired about one of the elder statesmen
of the family. However, as I gave it some more thought I realised that in the interest of equality, the younger Katherine
would make for a more interesting subject - being as she is under 60 AND female. Katherine, with some reluctance,
agreed to be a subject.
It was sightly more difficult t talk with Katherine than the other subjects as she was still working behind the counter
of the shop, as we spoke.
Without previous arrangement, Katherine was able to show photos of some ancestors who ran the shop before her.
From that moment my mind was made up to include those characters in my work.
