Ten Days in Tokyo, is a self published project produced by Laura Carlin, as part of her postgraduate studies.
These spreads encourage the consideration of gestural and visceral mark making approaches, in addition to the careful and more studied depictions that I have been favouring. Where drawing in situ is a must and particularly where a subject is likely to move, this approach is really the only method which might be considered. My own discomfort with openly drawing in public (the hospital) is the very thing which I will be kicking against and will inevitably be a core element in forming the visual outcome of the work - so shouldn't be seen as something to avoid, but rather embrace. |
