Vivian Maier Website
A fantastic example of a biographic website being done incredibly well, with purpose and great value. Something to get lost in for a few hours. Note to self: Finding Vivian Maier, documentary available on Amazon One of the things I want to focus on for this last stretch of MA work, is the world of street photography. At it's best, street photography shows us the complex and evocative narratives that we walk amongst on a daily basis, captured in a single frame. We marvel at the confident, authorial practice of the photographer who is able to cast themselves into the lives of others, if only for a moment, and is yet seemingly able to go beneath the surface facade of their subject. These to me, seem to be very comparable qualities to reportage illustration and I have to assume, in each case, the author (artist or photographer) has a the same or similar intentions, is driven by the same desires but has simply chosen different methods of record. |
